The UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization) Chair in "Creative Cities in Motion: Urban Sustainable Mobility and Utilization of Cultural Resources" has been awarded to the University of Piraeus' Laboratory of "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, Internet of Things (IoT), & Advanced Digital Technologies and Services" and Professor Dimitrios D. Vergados.

The University of Piraeus' Laboratory of "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, Internet of Things (IoT), & Advanced Digital Technologies and Services" has been awarded a University Chair named "Creative Cities in Motion: Urban Sustainable Mobility and Utilization of Cultural Resources" by UNESCO. Professor Dimitrios D. Vergados, the Laboratory's Director, is in charge of this Chair (Chair Holder).

Another International Distinction for Professor Mr. Dimitrios D. Vergados and the "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, Internet of Things (IoT) & Advanced Digital Technologies and Services Lab" of our University, of which he is the Director.

Professor Dimitrios D. Vergados is the Director of the MSc Degree "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, IoT and Advanced Digital Technologies" (http://www.cs.unipi.gr/dcsciot/en), and the Director of the corresponding “Digital Culture, Smart Cities, Internet of Things (IoT) & Advanced Digital Technologies and Services Lab”. He is a regular member of the Plenary of Hellenic Authority for Communication Security and Privacy (A.D.A.E) and Chairman of the General Assembly of the Hellenic Foundation of Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I). He has been a member of the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) Plenary (2013-2017), member of the Working Group of the Hellenic Organization for Standardization (E.L.O.T.) - ELOT/TE 105/OE1, titled "ICT Quality Indexes for Sustainable and Smart Cities". In addition, he has served as a member, expert, and evaluator for national and international organizations and committees.

The primary objective of the UNESCO Chair, known as "Digital Culture, Smart Cities, Internet of Things (IoT) & Advanced Digital Technologies and Services Lab", is to provide educational and advisory assistance in order to enhance the accessibility, usability, and security of sustainable urban cities, while also revitalizing their cultural vitality.

The primary goal is to establish a center for academic innovation and excellence in collaboration with UNESCO and the Greek National Commission for UNESCO.
